      Discover a new way to stay current with your specialty: BrowZine

      BrowZine is an app that allows you to browse, read, and keep track of your favorite journals from your Apple or Android device! You can create a customized bookshelf of journal articles and table of contents. You can also access the full text of articles to which the Zucker School of Medicine subscribes or is available as open access. Use BrowZine for convenient and fast browsing and current awareness of scholarly literature. Click here for instructions on downloading the app.

      MedU is now Aquifer
      As of 29th, MedU had changed it's name to Aquifer. The course content will remain the same. The resource is now listed under "Aquifer" on the Library's Databases page.

      Pharmacology World - new video lecture resource

      Pharmacology World is a new video lecture resource for key concepts of pharmacology incorporating relevant physiology, pathophysiology, and biochemistry. The lectures cover major drug classes and include mechanism of action, key pharmacokinetics, major therapeutic uses, and common and serious adverse effects.

      IEEE Xplore - Trial Now Available!

      At the request of Feinstein Institute research faculty, the libraries have initiated a trial of the IEEE Xplore digital platform. This extensive resource provides full text access to journals, conference proceedings, standards, and transactions in the fields of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, electronics, and computer science. If these fields are of interest to you, please try out this resource and provide feedback to debra.rand@hofstra.edu. The trial is in effect until November 15th. Tips on using the resource will be available upon request.

      NLM Citation Style Guide Updated

      The NLM citation style guide, Citing Medicine: The NLM Style Guide for Authors, Editors, and Publishers, has recently been updated with over 40 new examples, including new references for datasets, data repositories, ahead-of-print articles, and more. In addition to the new references, almost all of the manual’s chapters and two of the appendixes were edited and updated. View all of the changes in the Content Updates appendix.

      Try VisualDx today! VisualDx is a clinical tool that provides access to over 23,000 peer-reviewed images and concise information for over 1200 diagnoses. This product is fully integrated with UpToDate detailing diagnoses relating to visual conditions and infections.

      Library subscription activated for Board Vitals review program!

      Register now for access to Board Vitals. If you registered during the trial your account information and usage are pre-loaded, just login here. Board Vitals is a board review tool that consists of over 3,000 USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3 level review questions and over 5,000 Shelf Exam review questions.

      Additional features include: the ability to create customized practice tests; advanced statistics to track your strengths and weaknesses based on your performance; detailed, up-to-date explanations with each answer; and 24-hour access anytime and anywhere: from your phone, tablet and computer. At the end of each question there is a link to provide feedback to Board Vitals editors if you think there is a problem with the question or answer explanations.

      When registering, please note the following:

      • Make sure to use your @hofstra.edu, @pride.hofstra.edu, or @nshs.edu email address.
      • >Click the Sign Up button and the system will send a validation e-mail.
      • Check your e-mail and click on the validation link.

      DR MERL (short for Dependable Reviews of Medical Education Research Literature) is a monthly review service of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School that has been made available to NEGEA members. The reviews are written by Rutgers RWJ Medical School teaching faculty and include articles published in journals such as Academic Medicine, Medical Teacher, BMC, Medical Education, JGME and more.

      Web of KnowledgeSM and EndNote Basic

      The Libraries of the School of Medicine and the NS-LIJ Health System have obtained a full site license for Web of KnowledgeSM. The subscription includes the Science and Social Sciences Citation Indexes as well as access to EndNote Basic. EndNote Basic is a web version of the popular EndNote citation management software. Citations can be loaded directly from database searches or entered manually. Users can easily share citation files with other EndNote and EndNote Basic users to facilitate collaboration between students, residents, and faculty.

      New Trial Ebook Platform: LWWHealthLibrary

      The Health Sciences Library has initiated a trial of a new ebook platform from Lippincott called the LWWHealthLibrary that provides access to eight of our required textbooks, not formerly available online via a library subscription, as well as other basic science texts. Please take the opportunity to test the access for the books including the full text by chapter, images, animations, quiz reviews, and videos of the physical exam. You can also search a topic across all of the books. Three of the required books for the upcoming Homeostasis course are accessible. Mark's Basic Medical Biochemistry and Principles of Pharmacology by Golan are included.

      Please send feedback to Debra Rand about ease of use, navigation problems, changes you would like to see in the product, etc. The product is currently in beta mode and they want our feedback. The link will be on our library website under Library News and we will link pre-readings in Blackboard to specific books.

      NSLIJ Full-text Articles in Google Scholar

      School of Medicine students and faculty can now access full-text articles from Northwell Health found through Google Scholar. Google Scholar will display Full-Text@NSLIJ Libraries with citations, related articles and web search results. Access to NSLIJ results is only available via the Google Scholar link on the Database page.

      New iPad Lending Program

      The Health Sciences Library would like to introduce our new iPad lending program as an addition to our circulation services. Students and Faculty may check out one of the five available iPad 2 devices equipped with interactive textbooks, access to our online library resources, and assorted apps. Upon checkout, you are required to sign an iPad Loan Policy form. The iPad loan period is a maximum of 72 hours.

      Due to the limited amount of iPads, borrowers must return the devices on time to library staff only. Late returns are subject to a late fee at $10 per day. Please do not place the device in the book return box. **iPads must be checked out or returned during staffed hours 8AM – 6PM.

      You are free to install your favorite apps for the duration of your loan period. All personal content will be removed from the device immediately upon return.
