What is my Hofstra Username Network ID/ID Card Number?

Your Hofstra network ID is your way of accessing Hofstra resources and services such as the My.Hofstra.edu Portal, wireless network, etc.

  • If you have been issued a Hofstra ID card number (beginning with 700# or 701#), have this information ready when contacting SCS at 516-463-7777 option 1 to retrieve your User ID.
  • You may also send an email to SCS describing your issue.

I am having trouble logging in with my Hofstra User ID / Network ID. How do I get my password?

  • If your account has been activated and you continue to have login issues, try resetting your account password.

I forgot my password, how do I reset it?

How do I log in to Blackboard?
  • You log in to the portal (my.hofstra.edu ) with your network ID / Password.  A Blackboard icon appears along the top.  Click on it, and you will reach the home page of Blackboard. Your courses will be listed on the right hand side.
I cannot log in to Blackboard.

How do I download SofTest?
  • Visit ExamSoft.com. Enter your ID and password under 'Exam Takers’. Once logged in, click on 'Download SofTest' Double click on the installation file to install.
  • Once the installation is complete, you can run SofTest from your system. SofTest will prompt you to register with your ID/Password the first time it runs.
What are the minimum system requirements to run SofTest?
  • SofTest can be used on virtually any modern computer (i.e. purchased within the last 3-4 years). SofTest cannot be used on virtual operating systems such as Microsoft's Virtual Machine, Parallels, VMware, VMware Fusion or any other virtual environments.
  • PC Requirements:
    • CPU Processor = 1.86Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo or greater
    • RAM = highest recommended for the operating system or 2GB
    • Hard Drive = highest recommended for the operating system or 1 GB of free space.
    • Operating System = English 32-bit Versions of Windows XP, 32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Only genuine versions of Windows Operating Systems are supported.
    • ExamSoft does not support Tablet or Convertible devices. Surface Pro 1 & 2 will be supported after 8/1/14 (and will require an external keyboard)
    • Internet connection for SofTest Installation, Exam Download and Upload
    • Screen Resolution must be 1024x768 or higher
    • Adobe Reader (Version 9 or 11) is required for exams containing PDF attachments. Administrator level account permissions
    Mac Requirements:
    • CPU = Intel processor
    • RAM = 2 GB
    • Hard Drive = 1 GB or higher free disk space
    • Operating System = OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), OS X 10.7 (Lion), OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), and 10.9 (Mavericks). Only genuine versions of Mac Operating Systems are supported. We do not support OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) at this time. Look for an update on support for this OS X here in the future.
    • Server version of Mac OS X is not supported
    • SofTest may not be used in a virtual operating systems
    • Software = Internet connection for SofTest Installation, Exam Download and Upload Administrator level account permissions (Instructions)
How can I prevent/stop my antivirus from blocking SofTest?
  • Antivirus programs can sometimes interfere with SofTest due to their security features. Because of this it is necessary to disable certain features provided by the antivirus and in some cases disabling the antivirus altogether; temporarily of course.

How do I download exam files and upload answer files?
  • Many ExamSoft clients have Exam Takers use the Internet to download their exam files and upload their answer files. For instructions on how to download exam files and upload answer files via the Internet, please go to www.examsoft.com/examdownload.
How can I print from my laptop to the printers in the building and on campus?
  • Students using PC or Mac computers can print from the wireless network via PridePrint, which is accessible via the myHofstra Portal. For instructions on how to set up and use PridePrint, visit Hofstra Prideprint
  • Students can print to the B/W and Color network printers located in the Library and the B/W printer in the mail room. Students are provided $120 in printing credits for the academic year. Scanning documents to email is free of charge.
I am having trouble printing using PridePrint, what do I do?

Try reinstalling the Prideprint software, which can be downloaded from the SCS website, Hofstra Prideprint. After reinstalling, restart your computer and try printing again.

How do I access Eduroam (Wireless Internet) on my laptop or mobile device?
  •  Please click here for specific directions on how to connect to Hofstra University's wireless network. 
I do not have a network ID with Hofstra. How do I access wireless while I am on campus?

If you are a guest, you can use the unsecured Guest Network.
HU Guest – will require you to register with a valid email address. A confirmation is sent to that email, and you must enter the code received in that email to access the Guest network. Follow the onscreen instructions to register for guest access.

How can I add my Hofstra email to my mobile device?

I am a student and need specialized software. How can I get this?
  • Hofstra University does not provide free licenses to students for specialized software (only what is available in the portal or pre-installed in Open Access labs across campus).
  • Students currently have access to the following in the My Apps section of the portal:
    1. Microsoft Office - Office 365
    2. SAP7 (Mac and Windows)
    3. VirtualBox 4.1 (Mac)
    4. PridePrint client
  • If you require access to special software for research purposes, discuss the need and rationale with the Office of Student Affairs. 
Where can I get can help with repairs for my personal (non-Hofstra) computer/mobile devices?

The Computer Repair Center provides full repair services to the entire Hofstra community. The Computer Repair Center services computers running Windows (XP, Vista, 7), Linux (hardware only), and Mac OS (10.3 or greater). *Please note that some services are billable.
