Financial Aid Eligibility

Federal Financial Aid

The criteria to receive federal funds from Title IV programs are the same for a medical student as for an undergraduate student. Title IV funds available to our students include Stafford Loans and Graduate PLUS Loans.

In order to receive federal financial aid, a student must meet the criteria below:

  • File a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Be a United States citizen or natural (American Samoa or Swain's Island)
  • Be enrolled in a program which leads to a degree or certificate
  • Demonstrate an ability to benefit from the aid
  • Use federal funds only for educational expenses
  • Not be in default on a federal student loan.
    • This refers to a loan or grant over-award that has not yet been resolved
  • Not have any past drug convictions
  • Have a valid social security number
  • Be registered with the Selective Service System (if applicable)

Institutional Financial Aid

To be considered eligible for institutional loans and scholarships, a student must meet the criteria above and, in addition, complete the requirements listed below:

  • File a completed FAFSA application with both student and parent financial information
  • Complete the Office of Student Finance Non-Custodial Parent Questionnaire, if applicable
  • Submit your parents' 2016 Tax Return Transcript if you are not able to use the IRS Data Retreival Tool through the FAFSA
  • Submit any other documents requested by the Office of Student Finance, if applicable
  • NOTE:  If you are 29 or older, or if you are married, please contact the Office of Student Finance to determine if you will need to submit parent information.
