Disbursement

Requirements

Below are the disbursement requirements for each potential financial aid award:

  • Scholarships

    There are no disbursement requirements for any scholarships awarded. Scholarships will automatically disburse to your Hofstra account.

  • North Shore-LIJ Health Loan

    Step 1:  Accept the award by logging in to the Hofstra Portal.
    Step 2 - First-time borrowers:  Sign the Northwell Health Loan Promissory Note/Entrance Counseling at Heartland ECSI, the School's loan servicer.

    Step 2 – Non-First-time borrowers:  You will receive an email from Heartland ECSI with further instructions.  For students who have already created an account, please visit https://www.ecsi.net/prom8s/
  • Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

    Step 1:  Accept the award by logging in to the Hofstra Portal.

    Accepting Federal Loans - federal regulations require that all federal loans be divided into equal installments.  However, you may submit a loan adjustment request form after the fall disbursement if you need to cancel or partially cancel your spring loan disbursement.  Please visit the "forms" section of our website to download the form.

    Step 2 - First-time borrowers only:  Sign the Master Promissory Note and complete Entrance Counseling at the U.S. Department of Education StudentLoans.gov website.

  • Graduate PLUS Loan

    Step 1:  Accept the award by logging in to the Hofstra Portal.

    Accepting Federal Loans - federal regulations require that all federal loans be divided into equal installments.  However, you may submit a loan adjustment request form after the fall disbursement if you need to cancel or partially cancel your spring loan disbursement.  Please visit the "forms" section of our website to download the form.

    Step 2:  Complete the Graduate PLUS loan application at the U.S. Department of Education StudentLoans.gov website.  A new application must be completed each year that you borrow from this loan program.
    Step 3 - First-time borrowers only:  Sign the Master Promissory Note and complete Entrance Counseling at StudentLoans.gov.

On occasion, students may be asked to provide additional information (proof of U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, etc.) which will prevent loan disbursement if the necessary documents are not submitted to the Office of Student Finance.  If a student encounters this requirement on the University portal, please contact the Office of Student Finance at the School of Medicine.

Disbursement Dates

Disbursement takes place twice annually:  10 days prior to the start of classes for the fall term, and on the day classes start for the spring term.  Below are the estimated disbursement dates for the 2018-2019 academic year.
