Lead small group clinical reasoning session with 9-10 MS1 or MS2 students; must be a clinician, preferably familiar with communication and/or physical diagnosis curriculum. Detailed faculty guide provided in advance of each session.

Initial 1 hour faculty development session, 3 hours session, occurs 3 times per each MS1 and MS2 course; faculty need to be available for all 3 sessions to facilitate for that course.

1 hour faculty development session prior to initial session, 30 minutes prior to each session. Additional 30 minute post-session debrief

Lead groups of 6-8 MS1 and MS2 students through targeted physical diagnosis skills.

Initial intensive 7 session commitment to enter this pool --3 hours per week for 7 consecutive weeks August-September plus 1-2 additional faculty development sessions.  Following initial experience, sporadic commitments 4-5 hours per session throughout academic year

1 hour prior to every session; 1-2 additional sessions prior to initial intensive experience

Lead groups of 8 MS1 and MS2 students in discussion regarding specific patient-physician interactions

Initial Clinical Experience (ICE) community preceptor

Provide MS1 and MS2 students with hands-on experience in community-based office setting (internal/family medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics).  Surgeons are needed as well and are expected to facilitate exposure of students to patients in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative setting.   Benefit is the development of a longitudinal relationship with students.

Variable frequency; each session lasts approximately 4-5 hours

4 hours in total to begin; ongoing opportunities via webinar and newsletters.

Advanced Clinical Experience (ACE) preceptor

Provide MS 3s with hands-on experience in office setting in internal medicine (or subspecialty) or pediatrics.  Office must be located close to North Shore University Hospital or LIJ. 

Approximately every other week throughout academic year with individual sessions lasting approximately 4 hours.

4 hours prior to beginning; ongoing opportunities via webinar and newsletters.

Observe, assess, and provide feedback to 4th year medical students as they engage in a simulation of clinical practice evaluating their proficiency in specific entrustable professional activities (EPAs).

Approximately 5 hours on day of activity; activity is scheduled every four (4) weeks on Monday mornings at the Center for Learning and Innovation in New Hyde Park

A single 2 hour session plus pre-meeting on the day of activity
